Fire Risk Assessments

Fire Safety Risk Assessments

It is the responsibility of all employers and building owners to have a regularly updated fire risk assessment conducted to ascertain if the correct fire safety measures are in place and identify which steps must be taken to comply with fire regulations.

Fire Safety Officers from Fire & Rescue Services, have the right to visit premises without notice to assess fire safety measures and to monitor fire risk assessments for effectively identifying issues. Buildings deemed unsafe can be served prohibition and enforcement notices, resulting in fines and even prison sentences. A phs fire risk assessor can help you to ensure your building is compliant and to avoid such an outcome.

Complying with the Law

General fire safety in non-dwellings in England and Wales is governed by The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (RRO).

In Scotland, requirements on general fire safety are covered in Part 3 of the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005, supported by the Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006.

Under The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 it is the duty of every employer to ensure the health, safety and welfare at work of all employees, including fire safety.

Enforcement of the law is mainly the responsibility of local fire and rescue authorities. Their powers include the authority to prevent access to premises in breach of the law. HSE also has enforcement responsibility on nuclear sites, construction sites and on ships under construction or being repaired.

With 30 years experience carrying out fire risk assessments UK wide, phs Compliance has the experience and unrivalled knowledge to help ensure that your premises and operations comply with the complex range of regulations applying to this vital area of health and safety.
