Our client’s transport division helps ensure UK railways, motorways, roads and airports run safely and smoothly supported by engineering design, construction, installation and maintenance services. 9300m of line track is replaced annually, 37 million Manchester Metrolink passenger journeys are supported every year, and 100, 000 rail assets are inspected annually across the UK.
The North-West depot is a major regional operations centre for our client and consists of a 2000 m² two-storey office building and a 50m² single elevation warehouse & storage facility. The 1990s-built site required significant upgrade works to facilitate modern working operations.
phs Compliance gathered client requirements and developed a full specification encompassing a full internal refurbishment across all finishes and services, including general building refurbishment to floor, washroom & kitchen areas, and installation of double-glazed windows throughout and replacement of asbestos roofing materials. We project-managed the end to end solution utilising a mix of in-house and specialist supply chain partners.
phs Compliance designed, sourced and installed a full LED lighting upgrade to office and warehouse areas involving more than 200 new fittings. We installed a variety of different luminaires including 40w LED flat panels, 25w 5ft LED fittings, and 80w high bay LED fittings. Motion detection sensors were installed across office spaces to provide lighting on-demand. We provided a full lighting design proposal in accordance with CIBSE requirements which provided significantly improved quality of light levels.
Refurbishment works were delivered to a live working building to avoid disruption of services to end customers. All 120 site personnel were relocated to one floor during the works, and no additional power or lighting was required to support these staff. Tight timescales challenged phs Compliance engineers to complete works on time & to budget. Out-of-hours shift working and strong project management ensured works were delivered to project timescales.
phs Compliance has delivered professional electrical and lighting installation services for a major regional operational site. The regional depot and offices now provide a pleasant modern working environment for employees and better reflect the corporate reputation of our client. The site is also now considerably more energy-efficient with LED replacement lighting and new double glazed windows.

Safety checks and sustainability work are, understandably, treated as separate jobs, but there's actually more overlap between them than people expect. A well-maintained building tends to run more
