Statutory Inspection and Test: NHS

phs Compliance began working with our Tier 1 facilities management provider delivering electrical safety compliance services across two large hospital sites within the UK’s largest NHS Trust. With more than 1200 A&E patients treated daily and 1.4 million annual outpatients, these hospitals perform more heart surgery, MRI and CT scans than any other hospital in the UK.

Inspection & testing in a highly operational hospital environment is one of the biggest challenges faced by our engineers, as well as the site’s estate team. One site alone consists of 15 buildings with 110 wards and 26 operating theatres. As circuits have to be isolated for testing purposes this is a significant responsibility in such a critical environment and extensive planning needs to take place to mitigate any risks that may occur.

phs Compliance annually inspects and tests twenty per cent of the hospital estate, working very closely with the on-site estates team to schedule in- and out-of-hours inspection ensuring minimal disruption.Within a hospital environment we pay particular attention to BS 7671 section 710 and ensure all engineers are fully qualified as well as holding Enhanced DBS/CRB clearance.

Testing these areas in accordance with BS7671 requires full cooperation of the site staff and hospital estates department. The work needs to be planned and requires full cooperation of site staff as well as the hospital estates department. Working out-of-hours and at twilight means minimal disruption occurs, a key concern of our customer. Secure site working practices are also closely observed so as to maintain site protocols.

phs Compliance engineers also correct minor defects during inspection, improving the estate and ensuring cost-efficient delivery of compliance services.

phs Compliance is proud to have renewed this comprehensive electrical safety compliance contract, and to be able to continue to support the effective management of this valuable estate with professional compliance services.

The key benefit to our customer lies in our optimal productivity on-site, gained from extensive experience of delivering works within these buildings & sites.
