To ensure that your workplace is compliant with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and line with standards such as BS 5306-3:2017, the responsible person or duty holder must ensure that their premises is equipped with the appropriate fire-fighting equipment including portable fire extinguishers.
Fire extinguishers are required to be periodically inspected and tested. This ensure that should a fire be detected, there are adequate means available to extinguish the fire. BS 5306-3:2017 Commissioning and maintenance of portable fire extinguishers – Code of Practice outlines the minimum requirements for the inspection of fire extinguishers.
A monthly visual inspection should also be carried out by the responsible person or duty holder in line with the BS 5306-3:2017 Code of Practice.
