Fire-Fighting Equipment (Fixed and Portable Systems)

To ensure that your workplace is compliant with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and in line with BS 5306-3:2017 standards, the responsible person or duty holder must ensure that their premises are equipped with the appropriate fire-fighting equipment including portable fire extinguishers.

Fire extinguishers are required to be periodically inspected and tested. This ensures that should a fire be detected, there are adequate means available to extinguish the fire.

BS 5306-3:2017 Commissioning and Maintenance of Portable Fire Extinguishers outlines the minimum inspection requirements.

A monthly visual inspection should also be carried out by the responsible person or duty holder in line with the BS 5306-3:2017 Code of Practice.
